How to cancel Proton Unlimited

Proton Unlimited subscriptions are managed through your Proton account at account.proton.me. When you cancel, your plan remains active through the end of the current billing period, then your account automatically downgrades to Proton Free — no immediate loss of access.

Note: Proton Free includes only 1 GB of Mail storage. If your current usage exceeds that limit, sending and receiving email will stop until you free up space or resubscribe. Download or archive any data you need before your paid period ends.

Steps

Sign in to your Proton account
Go to account.proton.me and sign in. You can also reach account settings from the ⚙ icon within any Proton service.
Open Settings
Click the ⚙ (gear) icon, then select 'All settings'.
Go to Subscription
In the Settings menu, navigate to the 'Subscription' section.
Scroll to Cancel subscription
Scroll down to find the 'Cancel subscription' option and click 'Continue'.
Confirm cancellation
Click 'Cancel subscription' again to confirm. Your Proton Unlimited plan stays active through the end of the current billing period, then downgrades to Proton Free.

Things to know

After your paid period ends, your account downgrades to Proton Free with 1 GB of Mail storage. If your current Mail usage exceeds 1 GB, sending and receiving email stops until you free up space or resubscribe.
Proton Unlimited covers multiple Proton services (Mail, VPN, Drive, Calendar, Pass). Downgrading to free reduces storage and features across all of them.
To fully remove your Proton account, use the separate account deletion process — canceling your subscription only downgrades you to the free plan.
