How to cancel Coursera
Last reviewed About 2–5 minutes
If you started your Coursera subscription on the website, you can cancel it from your Purchases page — either on the web or in the mobile app. If you started it inside the Coursera mobile app instead, Apple or Google Play is actually billing you, and Coursera's own site won't show a cancel option; you have to stop it through that store.
Specialization and Professional Certificate subscriptions cancel themselves automatically once you finish all the included content, so those don't need manual cancellation at all. Coursera Plus is the exception — it keeps renewing until you cancel it yourself.
Steps
Sign in at Coursera.org
This path works if you originally subscribed through the website rather than the mobile app.
Open Purchases
Go to your Purchases page and find the subscription under the Subscriptions tab.
Cancel it
Click Cancel subscription next to that plan.
Things to know
- A web-started subscription can also be canceled from the Coursera mobile app: tap the gear-shaped settings icon at the top right, open My Subscriptions, tap Manage Subscription beside the plan, then tap Cancel subscription.
- A subscription started inside the Coursera app is billed by Apple or Google Play, not Coursera — cancel it through that store's own subscription settings instead of looking for a cancel option on Coursera.org.
- Specialization and Professional Certificate subscriptions end on their own once you finish all the included content — there's nothing to manually cancel there.
- Coursera Plus doesn't auto-cancel, so it needs the manual steps above if you want it to stop.
- There's currently no way to pause a subscription. Canceling instead keeps your course progress and grades saved, and you can pick back up by resubscribing later.
- Canceling stops future charges but doesn't refund payments you've already made — refund eligibility depends on whether you're on a monthly plan or the annual Coursera Plus plan, per Coursera's payments and refunds policy.
Frequently asked questions
- What happens to my course progress if I cancel Coursera?
- It's saved, including any grades you've earned. Resubscribing (or upgrading to a paid version of a course) lets you pick up where you left off.
- Do I get a refund when I cancel a Coursera subscription?
- Canceling only stops future payments — it doesn't refund what you've already paid. Refund eligibility is separate and depends on whether you're on a monthly plan or the annual Coursera Plus plan.
- Do I need to manually cancel a Specialization or Professional Certificate subscription?
- No. Those end automatically once you complete all the included content. Only ongoing plans like Coursera Plus or a monthly subscription need you to cancel manually.
